NEVER SETTLE ON TASTE

Beyond Meat to launch new meatless restaurant in New York City to encourage more plant-based choices while dining out

NEW YORK CITY – Beyond Meat, a pioneer in the plant-based meat industry, will be opening its first brick-and-mortar restaurant on the Lower East Side next month. The fast-casual eatery, called Never Settle by Beyond Meat, will boast an entirely meatless menu along with other options to make meals vegetarian or fully vegan. The restaurant will open to the public in the new year.

Never Settle will be holding a soft opening in December where chefs, restaurant reviewers, and other changemakers in the plant-based space will converge for not just a food tasting but a conversation on the accessibility, sustainability and economic longevity of the plant-based food market. Notably from 2018 to 2019, retail sales of plant-based foods have increased 11% in the United States, which brings the plant-based market value to $4.5 billion, according to the Plant Based Foods Association

Celebrity chef partner and creative visionary of Never Settle, Spike Mendelsohn, will host the event. Mendelsohn is a Washington D.C. based chef and is well known for his top five finish on season four of Bravo’s Top Chef as well as his appearance on the Food Network shows such as Iron Chef America and Beat Bobby Flay

Mendelsohn has already made a name for himself in the plant-based space with PLNT Burger: a burger kiosk serving vegan renditions of classic fare through a partnership with East Coast Whole Foods Markets. Mendelsohn decided to team up with Never Settle because of the soaring enthusiasm for meatless diet changes. Between 2014 and 2019, interest in veganism increased sevenfold, according to The Vegan Society’s research.

“I’ve always loved burgers but when I married my wife, who is vegan, I’ve been introduced to that world,” Mendelsohn said in an interview with Restaurant Hospitality. “A few years back I ran into Seth [Goldman, executive chairman of Beyond Meat] at a panel and he slid a cooler of Beyond Burgers under my chair. I took them home and was blown away.”

Beyond Meat was founded by Ethan Brown in 2009 as an improved way to feed the future. The company champions a meatless and sustainable diet through positive, forward-thinking choices to make an impact on the health of both people and the planet. Beyond Meat uses plant-based, non-GMO ingredients to deliver the meaty experience people crave while also promoting an accessible solution to issues like human health, climate change, constraints on natural resources and animal welfare.
